A Word About Our Event Sponsor, Jaftex….

In 1930, Jacob A. Fortunoff (JAF in Jaftex) founded the Jaftex Corporation.  Little did he know that 91 years later that the company would still be a viable business under the reins of the third and fourth generations of Fortunoff boys.  Today, the company is run by Jacob’s grandson, Robert, and his two sons, Greg & Scott.  Over the years, the family has been active in acquiring businesses in the textile industry.

One of the earliest acquisitions was of Henry Glass Fabrics in the 1990’s.  That was followed by the purchase of A.E. Nathan Co., Inc.  Those two acquisitions moved the company away from manufacturing for the lingerie and sleepwear industries and pushed them in a new direction towards what today is the over-the-counter textile market.

In 2010, the family bought Fabric Editions of Seneca, South Carolina, which catered to the big box retailers, but was also the home of Studio E Fabrics whose fabrics were sold to quilt shops.  Studio E was spun off from Fabric Editions.  It was then moved to the Jaftex home office in New York City in order to take the brand in an entirely new direction.  Since then, the Fabric Editions team has successfully developed its 3 Wishes brand to fill the place of the Studio E sales.

In 2014, the Blank Quilting Corporation was acquired and also rolled into the New York offices where Henry Glass, A.E. Nathan & Studio E were housed.

Then in 2018, the family made its largest acquisition ever.  They bought FreeSpirit Fabrics of Charlotte, North Carolina.  It was the home of quilting stars and household names like:  Kaffe Fassett, Tula Pink, AnnaMarie Horner and Tim Holtz to name a few.  After this acquisition, things would never be the same again for the Fortunoffs.

Around 2018, the family opened the G&S Warehouse in Seneca, South Carolina where the majority of the company’s fabrics would be shipped from.

With roots in the Carolinas dating back many years and generations, the family wanted to pay homage to all the great fabric stores in the Carolinas by fully supporting and sponsoring the All Carolina Shop Hop.  With that, we hope the shop hop is a huge success for both consumers and retailers alike.  We thank everyone in the Carolinas for their continued support of all of the Jaftex brands.  Safe travels and have fun!
